The Santa Paula Arte & Collective is a community-based organization focused on promoting arts and culture within the City of Santa Paula. According to the organization’s mission, the Collective seeks to build a dynamic cultural landscape through the arts.

Additionally, the Collective’s vision is to build the community’s diverse creative expressions by making the arts an increasingly vital and meaningful part of public life. Consistent with this mission and vision, the Santa Paula Arte & Cultura Collective has proposed the implementation of a Utility Box Art Project to transform select utility boxes located throughout the City into public art installations.

The project aims to beautify public infrastructure, celebrate local culture and creativity, and foster greater community engagement with the arts. Public art programs of this nature have been implemented in many cities throughout California as a way to enhance the visual environment, support local artists, and reduce graffiti through creative placemaking. Electrical and signal control boxes located within the public right-of-way have been identified as potential sites for the project. These include traffic signal cabinets and electrical utility boxes located at various intersections and public areas throughout the city. The proposed program would allow artists, community members, students, and organizations to submit original design proposals for review prior to installation on approved infrastructure. Interested?
